Regent held its 2013 Directors of Nursing Conference at the Hermitage Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee, May 22-24. Attendees reviewed and discussed Global DON/DCO goals at the meeting, and Regent gave each DON his or her center’s facility objectives for 2013. The attendees showed interest in expanding their knowledge of the administrative side of the ASC business and were excited about working toward the goals for this year. The 2013 goals include:

  1. Decreasing or maintaining hours per case (center specific). Regent leadership communicated the weekly staffing report’s importance for effectively managing hours per case and overtime, and shared strategies for cross-training and creative scheduling.
  2. Decreasing cost per case (center specific). Regent leadership encouraged DONs/DCOs to be more proactive in looking at cost savings and understanding cost per case at their facilities. Amy Gagliardi, Vice President, Purchasing and Evan Metz, Purchasing Manager, will touch base with each DON at site visits to ensure that cost per case continues to be managed effectively.
  3. Reporting turnover times as part of physician satisfaction. Regent leadership provided DONs/DCOs with an overview of the 2013 Regent Turnover Times Performance Improvement project. As part of the new initiative, Regent staff will collect data starting in Q3 2013 for benchmarking against Regent Centers and the AAAHC Institute for Quality Improvement.
  4. Increasing patient satisfaction survey responses. Regent leadership encouraged the DONs/DCOs to communicate to their staff the importance of the patient satisfaction surveys. The leadership team carefully analyzes the survey results to ensure Regent centers continue to deliver exceptional patient care and customer service.

Thank you to all those that attended this year’s meeting. We were able to learn, network and identify some excellent practices and tools to take away for everyday use. In addition, the feedback we have received has been very positive, and we also heard some excellent suggestions for next year’s conference.
