Beginning earlier this year with the installment of Chris Bishop as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Regent completed a three-year succession plan for key executives including Thomas (Tom) Mallon, former CEO and Co-founder, W. Michael (Mike) Karnes, Partner and Co-founder, and Joyce Deno Thomas, Interim COO.
Karnes and Mallon founded Regent in 2001. Karnes served as Regent’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for 15 years prior to announcing his succession in 2014. He mentored Matt Lau for 8 years before promoting him to Regent’s CFO in 2015. He has served as an advisor since that time and will continue to serve on the board of directors.
“Mike has been instrumental in establishing Regent’s leadership team and operational platform to exceed industry standards,” says Bishop. “Mike has spearheaded a metrics driven approach to operations and built a Finance Department to meet the needs of a high growth company. He will continue to be active at the board level, and our Finance team is very well positioned to continue to driving Regent forward.”
Joyce Thomas was named Regent’s COO in June 2015 and has served as SVP Operations including Corporate Clinical Director for 11 years. In addition to her primary leadership role, Thomas has led a number of key initiatives at Regent including the development of the company’s award-winning values program known as R.I.S.E. – which stands for Respectful caring, Integrity, Stewardship and Efficiency.
“Joyce is a trusted, operational leader and she embodies our culture at Regent,” says Bishop, “And like any great operational leader, she will truly never retire. Joyce will continue to share her clinical expertise and serve in an advisory capacity at Regent.”
Operations/Clinical Operations will be led by Regent executives Anne Roberts, David Moody, Bob Ryan, Kathleen Bernicky, & Stephanie Martin.
“On behalf of everyone at Regent, we wish Tom, Mike and Joyce the very best in their retirement,” said Bishop. “We are grateful for their mentorship, contributions and the platform they prepared for us to lead the ASC industry – they represent the very best of us.”
